Goat Breed

Goat Breeds and their Characteristics

Goats are an integral part of our ecosystem, and goat farming has been found since ancient times.  Farmers use selective breeding techniques to inbreed the goat for multi-purpose use through traditional practices. These ancient practices are the reason for the evolution of the breeds for specific purposes with high yield. There are many breeds in the world.

Unfortunately, the actual production value of individual breeds has not been realized yet. Though some of the breeds are very famous and found worldwide, the majority of the breeds still live in obscurity. Thus, selective breeding helps develop the goats for a high quality of fibre, milk, meat, and goatskin. Several of these goat breeds come under the non-descript category. The breed of domestic goats is comparatively famous than the others.

Another breed of famous goats is the breed of dairy goats. They are one of the oldest recognized animal breeds, and one can easily find breeding standards and procedures and production records in abundance. Because the actual production value and breed standards are not recorded, there is a lack of data for many goat breeds. This lack of data has affected the developmental programs for evolving more qualitative breeding of the goats.

When it comes to the categorization standard of breeds, goats are sorted according to their primary use. Some goat breeds might be a dual-purpose while; other species might be multi-purpose. Goats are a famous choice for breeding along with other livestock because they can sustain even in regions with low vegetation.

Selection and breeding influence the profitability of your goat enterprise. Thus, it is crucial from the genetic perspective for growth in a particular market.
